Reflections of Life
“We cannot Lord thy purpose see, but all is well that’s done by thee.”
Geney Patricia Russell affectionately called “Nipsie” by many was a very beautiful and loving soul. She was born in Trelawny, Jamaica W.I. on May 7, 1949 to the union of Philbert and Vashti-Lee Russell. She attended Falmouth (Barracks) all age school. Geney was an excellent student and loved life; she spent her early years serving her family and community in a respectable manner. Geney migrated to Kingston to live with her older sister at an early age and was soon adopted into a loving family. While in Kingston she worked with a prominent establishment as a machine operator.
In 1970, she migrated to Canada and later that same year to the United States where she worked as a caregiver, mentor and entrepreneur. In 1989, Geney fearlessly opened OG’s Restaurant on Linden Boulevard in Queens, NY, where she graciously served her community for over 30 years. Geney was a loving and devoted mother, and often extend herself far beyond the borders of her family. In 1982 she met Ovan Clarke and after a long relationship they got married in May 2007. Geney gave back to her community in Jamaica for over 20 years, as one of the biggest contributors to the John and Gwendolyn Foundation. This organization was founded in honor of her husband’s parents in effort to provide educational scholarships to students in the Chester Castle community.
Geney had a passion for life; she loved fine dining, music and dancing. She was immaculate in everything she did and was a woman of class. She was a sister, a friend, a confidant, a counselor and more. Geney was a very jovial, giving, selfless, strong-willed, family-oriented and loving person. Her hobbies included but were not limited to cooking, serving others and traveling. There was never a dull moment in her life and she left a lasting impression on every person she encountered.
Geney was a God fearing woman who was baptized in 2014 and faithfully served at the church she attended. She was a strong woman of faith, who took on life’s daily challenges with a smile often quoting “all is well.” On March 28, 2020, Geney went on to be with the Lord. Geney would not want us to cry but to celebrate her life and the legacy she left behind. She was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by: her husband, Ovan Clarke; children, Claudia, O’Neil, Christopher, Aaron, and Leon; grandchildren, Tatianna, Tiamani, Ciara, Christopher, and Leon Jr.; sister, Cynthia; brothers, Owen, Donald and Hansel; adopted family, Kathline, Virbert, Edmarie, Jean, Paulette; sisters-in-law, Jackie and Cissie; brothers-in-law, Joscelyn and Kingsley; adopted children, Marcus, Justin, Mouse and Alyssa; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, confidants and devoted OG’s Restaurant family.
